Here’s a peek at what we’re working on for Sunday’s Business section.

We have a 2-story package on the mega development Avalon coming to North Fulton. It’s a really important project and we’ll be taking a close look via stories, photos, graphics, video and more. Here are summaries of the two stories running Sunday.

AVALON – When it opens (next) Thursday, Alpharetta’s Avalon will be one of the biggest mixed-use projects in metro Atlanta in years, especially for the fast-growing suburbs. The $600 million project, like its cousin at Buckhead Atlanta, had been stalled for years after the original developer dropped out during the Great Recession. The developers, who also operate Atlantic Station, plan to establish it as one of the important destinations in the Southeast.

MORE AVALON – Avalon is the latest shopping and dining development to eschew Atlanta’s mall culture in favor of walkable, old downtown shopping. Geared for boomers and millennials, it follows the recent opening of Buckhead Atlanta and takes advantage of a variety of factors as malls continue to lose their popularity. We explore what’s going on and why.

SHARK TANK – Entrepreneurship is about as American as apple pie and dollars. But it’s taken a popular TV show, ABC’s Shark Tank, now in its sixth season, to give more legitimacy to entrepreneurship’s role in the economy and career paths. The show has spawned a raft of knock-off contests and given Americans a glimpse of what the world of angel investing is like. It’s also had direct impact on Georgia small businesses that made it onto the show. The latest, an entrepreneur highlighted in the AJC’s first Secrets of Success column last year, is featured in a Shark Tank episode airing Oct. 17.

Check out this video shot by reporter Matt Kempner of a Shark Tank success story. It’ll give you a flavor of the story.

And we’ll have Henry Unger’s 5 Questions for the Boss column. It’s always a good read and I learn leadership lessons from it myself. He’s writing on Spellman College’s president.

Let me know what you think of the section!
