Fire drills at Atlanta airport in coming days

If you see heavy black smoke in the area of Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in the coming days it may be the result of annual fire drills .

The Atlanta Fire Rescue Department says it will hold drills Wednesday, May 13 and May 20 from 8 a.m. until noon. The drill will be held at 860 Lake Mirror Road near the airport.

The drills are required by the Federal Aviation Administration for annual aircraft rescue and firefighter certification.

Several weeks ago, the airport itself held a full-scale emergency disaster drill replicating an airplane on fire and treatment of nearly 100 volunteer “victims.”
