Software firm Concurrent has opened a research and development center in Midtown, adding to the growing roster of large and small companies planting innovation labs near the campus of Georgia Tech.

The company said in a news release issued Sept. 24 that its center will be located in the 201 17th Street office tower in Atlantic Station. The office will be the base for more than 30 engineers who will work to find new high capacity storage and other software services.

“Concurrent is expanding our team and hiring the most exceptional engineers in order to pursue our strategic growth initiatives,” said Derek Elder, CEO of Concurrent. “Our new Innovation Center enables us to take advantage of deep talent pools in the Midtown Atlanta area in order to hire top-quality people, accelerate our R&D activities and outperform the competition.”

Concurrent joins companies such as Panasonic and AT&T in planting new research centers in Midtown to tap into the area’s skilled workforce.
