As the weather cooled, so did the housing market, but prices and sales in September were still up from a year ago, according to the Atlanta Board of Realtors.
In the 11-county area tracked by the board, the number of sales was up 12.3 percent last month from the same month of 2014, the board said in its monthly report released today.
The median price of those homes sold was $219,000 – up 3.8 percent from a year ago. The average price was $279,000, a 5.7 percent increase from 2014.
The higher average price reflects the greater number of purchases at the upper end of the market.
But the usual seasonal slowing was at work: Compared to August – the month before — the month saw a decline of 13.5 percent in the number of transactions, down to 4,262 sales.
