A development firm that plans to build five skyscrapers near Abernathy Road and Ga. 400 in Sandy Springs is seeking regional review of the massive Sandy Springs project.

A developer has proposed this mixed-used development in Sandy Springs where Mount Vernon Highway, Perimeter Center West and Abernathy Road converge.

The firm, 1117 Sandy Springs LLC, filed documents Tuesday that provided the greatest detail yet of their development plans at 1117 Perimeter Center West. The firm said in its Development of Regional Impact filing that the project will involve 1,587 residential units, about 188,000 square feet of retail and a total of more than 1.8 million square feet of office space.

The numbers are similar to those given during a meeting last month with nearby residents and business leaders.

The developer, a family trust with ties to Australia, New Zealand and Asia, is also expected to seek zoning approval from the city of Sandy Springs.

DRI filings are aimed at alerting the Atlanta Regional Commission and neighboring governments of large projects that may affect traffic, schools and other services.

In the community meeting last month, residents raised a number of concerns, including worries about traffic congestion. The proposal includes three residential high-rises and two office towers surrounding an existing office building.

But other projects planned around the Sandy Springs and Dunwoody areas have also caused some angst about a potential onslaught of traffic.
