Atlanta job growth zips to 8th-fastest in the country

Help wanted, Employment adJudging job growth is not just about the number, it’s about the pace.

That is, the same number of new jobs means a lot more in a smaller community than in a major metro. And metro Atlanta’s did pretty well last year by both metrics, according to a study out this week from the business school at Arizona State University.

Atlanta added about 70,000 jobs during the year. But Atlanta is no small town — it started the year with about 2.57 million jobs.

So a crunch of the number puts Atlanta in a three-way tie for eighth place with 3.3 percent growth – that is, the jobs added during the year represent 3.3 percent of the jobs already in the region.

Among states, Georgia also ranked eighth and tied for the honor – but this time with the state of Washington. Both grew at a 2.9 percent pace.

The fastest growing states were Utah, Florida and Nevada and Oregon.

The top 10 metro areas of 1 million or more worker in the pace of job growth in 2015, according to the study:

  1. Riverside,  – up 4.5 percent
  2. Orlando – up 4.2 percent
  3. San Jose – up 4.1 percent
  4. Dallas – up 3.9 percent
  5. San Francisco – up 3.7 percent
  6. Denver – up 3.6 percent
  7. Tampa – up 3.4 percent
  8. Atlanta, Miami, Portland, OR – up 3.3 percent

AJC - fix your fraudulent Cyclopse ad on the mobile site. It has been reporting false clicks for months. I have emailed your team, was promised a response, and never received one. Oddly, I am now blocked from posting on the AJC website (not the blog page, here). I will assume it's an honest mistake - but it's very suspicious.

I also hope you are not paid per click and are stealing money from your clients ...

But...but..but...sputter..sputter.  To the 27 liberals who sing to each other on these AJC liberal blogs, this can't possibly be right.  That list is majority in red states.  States that are backward, racist, homophobic, hate filled trump supporters.

We need to move the the wonderful, amazing, caring, open, tolerant (cough cough) govt models in states like NY, Ill, Ca, Oregon, etc.    I'm sure they'll produce way more economic value than those awful red states.

Dang....reality of the real world crashes once again into the disney world POV of libs - the one that sounds so good (free everything for everyone!!) but fails every time it's tried.

Bummer.

@dcdcdc

You may be confusing cities with the states in which they reside. Some metro areas on this list are predominantly red, some are blue.

But here is an actual fact: EVERY ONE of the CITIES listed in this article voted blue for Obama in the 2012 presidential election. In fact, Obama won the top 4 biggest cities in Texas. So things are not necessarily black and white, blue or red.

God, when someone uses the term "lib" and "free everything for everyone" - I just can't wait to hear the uneducated banter and attempt at humor that will come .... Thanks for not letting me down!

Those terrible tolerant places lol lol lol. Your attempt at humor is amazing. thank you,

But Obamacare kills jobs.

@Corey After every downturn, there's an upturn where there's job growth.  Under Obama, we've had the only upturn in history that never reached at least 3%/yr growth. And yes that's in part due to Obamacare.

OMG...you people will blame anything you can on Obama. Seriously...Bush is the reason for the recession and the slow economic turnaround. Obama has helped pull us back into growth. Which you will work to destroy by electing another Republican president.

@ChristopherATL Crank up your lithium libtard and go back to sleep, Obama killed America in your slumber.

Phew! I thought I was going to have to go to another liberal leftist, socialist blog to find one that didn't blame George Bush.  but, this alleged piece of SHI* posting saved the day!

anyone who criticizes "obamacare" has never read even one page of the hundreds of it! I have asked about 50-75 who criticize it to speak to me about it - and you know what? 100% of them actually know nothing about it. It's an amazing stat - and i would bet my life Corey hasn't read one sentence of it either.

Amazingly, only one person knew it was called the affordable care act. And they were for it (just not all of it)!
