Fast-fashion clothing giant H&M will open a store at the Mall at Stonecrest in Spring 2017, the mall confirmed Monday.
Retail magazine “Design: Retail” first reported on its online site that the Stockholm, Sweden-based retailer will open a 21,000-square-foot store at the Lithonia-area mall.
The addition is a big win for the shopping center, which, like a lot of regional malls, have struggled as consumers increasing shop online and ubiquitous retails such as Gap and Starbucks have pulled stores in an effort to trim locations. Kohl’s, one of the mall’s anchors, is closing its Stonecrest store later this year.
More recently, Target and Best Buy have closed their stores near the mall.
Donald Bieler, director of marketing at Stonecrest, hinted recently in an email that the mall would soon have news on more retailers.
“We currently have nearly 80,000 square feet of new development under construction, which will result in a favorable small shops occupancy of over 90 percent by Christmas of 2016,” he said in the email. “The new developments include an 8,000-square-foot Victoria’s Secret, a 20,000-square foot-popular European apparel retailer, and a soon to be announced entertainment concept.”
The Stonecrest H&M will bring the chain’s Georgia store count to 11, including stores at Atlantic Station, Cumberland Mall, Perimeter Mall, Town Center at Cobb, North Point Mall, Mall of Georgia and Arbor Place Mall.
